William Trewarne was born at Hawthorn, Vic. on 13.07.1912.

Bill had been in the Militia – 4th Field Brigade – before the war and he enlisted, at age 27, on 04.11.1939 at No. 7 Drill Hall, East St. Kilda, leaving behind his young sweetheart – Edna.

Bill and Edna Eileen Trewarne (now deceased) were married on 18.08.1942

He was allocated to the 2/2nd Field Regiment, 6th Division and saw all his wartime action with them in North Africa, Greece and Crete, before returning to Australia, via Ceylon. Bill Trewarne was commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant on 11.10.1943 and he was subsequently posted to the 2/8th Australian Field Regiment on 26.04.1944, from where he was eventually discharged on 10.01.1945.

He did not see action with the 2/8th.
